Nonconvetional sculptures

The sculpteres are amazing not just how they look, but evan for the prime material used in the sculpting process: wood, tape, pencil tip, phone book, snow, sand, wire.

Clay sculptures in the Australian rainforest

Located in  Dandenong mountain, Olinda the 92 sculptures was created by William Ricketts, between 1949 and 1960, in the time spent with the tribes of Central Australia. The sculptures are placed along several paths and give the impression that are carved directly from the trees. The Clay Sanctuary, known today as the William Ricketts Sanctuary, express the connection between humans and nature.

 

The hand buried in the sand of the Atacama Desert

Placed in the immensity of the most arid place on Earth, the sculpture measures 11 meters in height. Named by the locals "Mano de Desierto - the Hand of the dessert, the sculpure was created by the Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrazabal.

Live looking wood sculptures

 Using the trompe l'oeil painting techniques, Randall Rosenthal manages to give back the real image of the objects he imitate to create  his sculptures. The sculpture,  representing a stacks of hundred dollar bills in a box, took six weeks for carving and other weeks to paint.

Paper sculptures

The paper sculptures are the creations of sculptor Jeff Nishinaka. For his work, he use: tweezers, pencils, cutters and toothpicks. He make his sculptures in three days or four months, and they can reach sizes of 2.5 per 2.5 to 6 per 6 meters. Thanks to the meticulous works  placing the paper layers, at  proper lighting they have 3D look.

Sculpture in the graphite of the pencils


Dalton Ghetti make his sculpture in the graphite of the pencils, from 25 years. Primarly, he created large sculptures in wood, until he turned to miniatures. Generaly, most of his creations take months to complete. The pencils fragile tips break, sometimes after months of work. He gift his sculptures to his friends.

Sculptures in the phone book

Quer Alex, from United State use paper phone books to create portraits in relief of various celebrities, especially film, such as Clint Eastwood and Kirk Douglas.Quer sees his art as a  form of recycling.

 

Sculpture in wire fence

Australian artist Ivan Lovatt, recreated the iconic figures like the Beatles members, Micheal Jackson, Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, Bob Dylan using wire fence. He use 30 feet of wire for each sculpture in part.

Scotch tape sculptures

The transparent sculptures were made by the Darrell Coutu, who participated with them in an unconventional art competition, organized by the University of Edinburgh.

This hub appeals to me, since I am an "unconventional" type of gal and passionate about art, especially the "unconventional" variety. I enjoyed it, thanks!
